Thanks for the quick replies.  Yes, it is the YK-88C and the YG-465C (not the 
YG-88, which is the 8.8 MHz IF filter for the TS-820, not the TS-830).  I was 
typing faster than my brain -- a common Internet malady in Newsgroups.

Looks like it's nearly unanimous - receiver alignment.  

Will check CW4 jumper--that'd be too easy.  Then do the (easier) alignment in 
the Owner's Manual.  Then to the Richard Measures' article and the Service 
Manual --- with help from friends with the right test gear.

I'm gonna learn this rig, or kill it trying... 

But there's always Plan "D": Box it up & ship it to Avvid (if they'll still 
take it).  But I won't learn as much by doing that.  Wish me luck, and anyone 
with warning of pitfalls - bad instructions in the manuals, etc. - please let 
me & the rest of us know!
