[Kenwood] TS-950SDX ATU Squeal

One of my second-hand TS940SAT's came with a spare antenna tuner
motor.  The
seller volunteered that the motor had been squeeking.  He hadn't
gotten around to
fixing it, although he'd purchased the replacement motor.  The problem
seemed to
have gone away without our intervention.

Hello Group...
    I have a TS-950SDX in which the antenna tuner, when activated,
squeals like a stuck pig. This occurs when the radio is first turned
on. It sounds like metal scraping on metal. However, after the radio
has been on for a while, say 1/2 to 1 hr., the squeal no longer occurs
and there is just the usual slight whirr of the ATU operating.
Obviously, something warming up.
    I wonder if anyone has experienced this and could suggest a
remedy/cause.
Any ideas?
