[Kenwood] MC60 versus MC60A?

I'm helping a friend who has just purchased a new TS570. He has an MC60 mic
(from his 940) but the manual says the radio is compatible with the MC60A.
The only real difference I can see is the 60A has a pre-amp -- am I missing
something? Will either work equally as well with the new TS570? What is the
difference between the two microphones?
