Hi all,
I have a TS-940 ser #9100162.
I believe this 1987 Oct and 162 unit.
Model # TS-940S RTT/AT/222 whatever this means?
(assume means can do RTTY, does have ATunit, &222 don't know.)
It also has on it a City of LA electrical safety sticker right
above the Kenwood label.
I have this unit on the bench and am going thru it
putting in filters and a Piexx 232 interface. Also
checking different things and was also thinking of
changing the batteries.
Questions: The service manual lists 3 batteries in the
parts list but I can only find 2. Is there 2 or 3??
Also with this I was thinking of doing the mod that
Bill Smith (KO4NR) suggested for the TS-850 using
the Radio Shack battery and holder. The orig battery
is a BR2032 (solder in - BR=Carbon Monoflouride Lithium)
and the Radio Shack is a CR=Manganese Dioxide Lithium type.
Is this a problem? Are the batteries interchangeable electrically?
A side note here is that the holder that Radio Shack sells
has now been discontinued (RS#270-430) and no replacement.
I bought the last two.
Puzzle: Looking at the serial number above and looking
inside the radio, I noticed the date codes on the
caps and semis are dated 8817 up to 8837 which translates
to 1988 and then the week. 87 radio with 88 caps??
The serial number I found is on the bottom cover on the label.
Is there another spot for the ser no. on the unit itself somewhere.
Maybe a secret spot. I promise not to tell.. HI....
Thanks for reading this and if the group has any other suggestions,
comments or what would appreciate them.. This is a very good
reflector and glad it is here.
