[Kenwood] DDS IC's

What is the function of the 6631 DDS IC's? I'm
wondering who makes them for Kenwood and are they a
speciality IC that no one else makes? I'm thinking
that someone must make them and possibly that there is
a cheaper/easier way to obtain them than paying $28
each at PacParts.
