There are many well documented reasons for display problems tied to issues
with board side to side connections on the early technology double sided
digital board in the radio. I recall that the service bulletin page on the
Kenwood web site has that information. Let me know, however, if you cannot
find it and I can send it to you either in hard copy or scanned (depending on
how I still have it!). An even better solution, if the digital board is, in
fact, the cause, is to replace the digital board with the aftermarket Piexx
