[Kenwood] Have Question on Icom 02AT Handheld

Since I thought my HT-220 was stolen at a hamfest about 16 or so years ago,
I purchased an 02AT at the same hamfest brand new from a dealer. Low and
behold a month or less later the backup battery died. Knowing that the
dealer was local I just let them fix it. Well, two months later their
replacement died as well. I figured I could do better, and indeed I did
purchase a same sized Lithium battery at Radio Shack, although it did not
have solder tabs welded to it. Still, I  managed to solder the battery in
place and it lasted about two years. Then I decided to go the same route,
but was not as fortunate, as I overheated the battery while trying to attach
leads to it, and, it literally exploded in my face. I will never forget the
unique odor. Regardless, not willing to give up I purchased another battery
from RS and tried again a little more carefully, and succeeded. That last
battery has been in my 02AT for over 10 years and it is still working fine.
Now, Lithiums are a lot more available, and, buying one with welded on tabs
should be less of a problem. It can be done either way, but, the existing
soldertabs on the new battery would make the job a lot easier. Good luck
