[Kenwood] MRF485 substitution

Given the cost and availability of the MRF485 these days,
I have spent some time exploring other options.

Some have sucessfully substituted the 2SC1969. One person
also suggested putting a 1 amp micro fuse in the 28v line.
I also found someone else who places an L78S12 voltage
regulator in the 28v line to drop the voltage down to
run the 2sc1969 at 12v. While the idea of the additonal
safety of the voltage regulator appeals to me, It seems to
me that using an 18 or 24v regulator would make more sense,
as the supply voltage is brought within the 2SC1969's limits,
but is not having to work as hard as a 12v device would.

Anyone have any thoughts on this idea???
