The drift occurs even when the F. Lock in engaged.  This would eliminate the
tuning knob as the cause, would it not?

Tighten the tuning knob slightly..(the ring on the inside of the knob..) The
tuning knobs are not balanced, so if the brake is completely off, the knob
will freewheel slightly from where you put it..
