First let me quote my favorite scholar, statesman and womanizer, Benjamin
Franklin who said "Experience keeps a dear school, but a fool learns in no
other".... turns out I'm not so smart as you will see, so take my comments
as those of a raving "fool".
I have owned both and used them with my Kenwood HF radios (to legitimize
the thread 8^).
The MFJ-1026 performed better than my ANC-4 and was easier to tune...
that's the good news. The bad news is the MFJ died after 6 months and I
still have it sitting here on the shelf to remind me just in case I get
seduced by their low prices again TO NEVER BUY A PIECE OF MISSISSIPPI's
FINEST JUNK (this after three earlier and different pieces of MFJ gear all
bought new, failed for substandard parts and shoddy workmanship) . Not that
I am so smart I had to stick my hand on the stove 4 times before I learned
that it burns me ... go figure.
I would fix it myself IF I COULD GET A SCHEMATIC, I gave up after hours of
trying to deal with their customer service on the issue. That was a couple
of years ago....maybe things have changed. Anyone ever get a schematic for
the MFJ unit? I'd like to see one, bet I can fix my MFJ and sell it on Ebay 8^)
The best solution is to outfit your self with direction finding equipment
(VHF-AM radio and a small beam) and go find the noise source. Get some
exercise, save some money, meet your neighbors, become drinking buddies with
the engineers from the power company !
