[Kenwood] IF-10D What is it? Can it be homebrewed?

The chips in the IF-10 kit for the TS-440 were a UART and a programmable
counter. That means they communicated with the TS-440 processor in
parallel but the external world in serial. I don't know what the other
IF kits are but they could be similar, depending on the capabilities of
the radio's processor.
