My 940 -latest model, 10M serial number - has a worsening problem. It
appears that the BFO is leaking through. The tone is audible (CW mode,
both 500Hz filters) with the VBT off, and increases dramatically when
engaging the VBT ccw towards 12 o'clock. There is no problem with SSB -
or with CW using the SSB filter - or with a really noisy band, when band
noise masks the tone. The tone varies w/ the Pitch control & can be
notched out - but that takes out the desired signal!
I had the rig repaired in late '98...according to Kenwood, BFO leakage was
a problem in some earlier production runs, but fixed prior to my
manufacture date (late 1989). Their solution four years ago was to
resolder every connection on several boards (!). This worked for awhile,
but the tone has returned.
Has anyone run into this??
Thank you & 73,
