I think I was too brief in my first post.

The Blackman interface appeared in QST, it is a TTL-RS232 converter. I built
it, found it works well, but my rig would not respond to commands. I probed
around the TX pin on the TS-50's processor and found some millivolt level
signals. I suppose the IF-10D provides the right interface to cleanly
level-shift this signal to TTL levels.

The TS-50 CAT system requires not just the RS232 level-converter, which is
widely available, but also the IF-10D module (which is discontinued.) What
exactly the IF-10D does is mysterious (to me, seems redundant.) Two modules
are needed to get signals from the TS-50 microprocessor to RS232 levels.
Apparently the processor can't source or sink TTL signals? No onboard UART?
Perhaps Kenwood thought CAT would only be of interest to a few buyers.

The TS-50 provides a six pin connector to attach the IF-10D inside the
radio. The PIEXX product looks very different. I have emailed the company
for more details.

I am hoping someone may know what exact function the IF-10D performs. Even
better, has a circuit that does the job. Best of all, will sell me one  for
less than $110US.
