[Kenwood] psk31 on TS-2000

Thanks Alan. You gave me some good ideas. I sold my 870 to buy the 2000 and
one of the things I was hoping for was the ability to use the cw filter in
ssb mode. I kept reading the specs and was convinced that the rx would go
down to 100 hz bandwidth when using psk31. Last night I finally figured out
what they were talking about. Yes, PSK31 but only in FM mode! They expect
you to use PSK for satelite communications and there is a menu setting for
normal or narrow bandwidth FM mode only. Oh well.....
Your method sounds like it might work out for me although it's not quite
what I had in mind. The 2000 has a nice feature in the menu that when
activated, automatically adjust the ssb and cw frequency to provide equal
audio pitch when shifting between them. So if I'm listening to PSK in ssb
mode and hit the cw button, the pitch stays the same. Neat eh?
I suppose Kenwood doesn't understand that a 400hz bandwidth is as broad as a
barn door for psk31. It seems like it would have been sooo easy for them to
rig the filters to go down to 50hz in ssb mode. Maybe their next rig will
allow it or maybe someone will figure out a way to reprogram these. 73
