[Kenwood] S-meter problem

I'm having problem with my s-meter which is giving me fullscale reading most of the time, needle is parked in the right corner of the meter. I've been searching for a coldsolder joint but without luck. As soon as I try to lift the top cover and dig further it usually disappear. Since there is no schematic diagram (I know that there should be) in my usermanual it is hard to proceed. 

Can anybody bring some light?
