[Kenwood] TS 850 Drift -- Resolved

Back on 21 Oct I posted the following:

 

"While operating in the JARTS RTTY contest this weekend, I noticed a slight
drift in my frequency.

 

This change was very small and seemed to happen only on transmit, e.g. If I
was CQing on 14.082, it would change to 14.081 then 14.080 then 14.079 etc.
at the rate of about one change per minute or so.  Always downward.  

 

This was a real change in frequency, not just a change in the display.  All
other operations seem normal.

 

Any advice appreciated.

I received a few responses, but no clues as to the cause.  Even Clif said I
should consider an 

Exorcist.  However, the light bulb turned on over my head during the SS CW
last weekend when I noticed the frequency change once when I moved my mouse.


 

My logging program enables the mouse wheel to be used as a RIT knob.  I have
a wireless mouse.  Even though I did not touch the mouse wheel, either stray
vibrations or whatever is causing a signal from the mouse from time to time,
which decrements the RIT a notch.  Of course, engaging the F.Lock on the rig
has no effect on this, since the signal is coming into the rig through the
serial control line.  

 

When I figure out how to disable the mouse RIT feature, problem will be
gone.
