Greetings,
I came across a strange noise on my new Kenwood D700. I have confirmed
this noise on several D700s and suspect your rig may experience it
too. The problem is a strong 5,000 Hz tone being transmitted on VFO
B. My new (Dayton 2002) D700 has this problem along with other D700s
over a year old.
Here is the setup:
VFO-A - Blank, not used.
VFO-B - 146.520 for VHF or 446.000 on UHF. Makes no difference.
Another radio tuned to listen to your transmitted signal.
The first key-up on VFO-B is OK. The second, and every key-up
thereafter, will have a loud 5K ring to it. It decays over a 1/2 second
period, but is still present on the transmitted signal. A 5K tone is
very noticeable!
The problem is seen when ONLY using VFO-B. Since most D700 users have
both VFOs populated, the problem is never seen/heard.
I have seen this on every D700 I have tested. Their owners were very
surprised! Just a nit on a great rig.

PS: Dayton had them for $535. Anyone find them cheaper???
