Paul

There are no "direct" USB adapters to Kenwood radios and for that matter
none of the radio control and logging software out there has drivers
supporting the USB interface protocol anyway

I have in the past used a "USB to RS232 converter". With some success.
These are essentially devices that convert USB to RS232 and have a software
driver that "assigns" a COM number to the USB port. Not all USB to RS232
converters work reliably , there have lots of threads on this, also the
use of these converters with laptops is often unpredictable because the USB
on some laptops does not provide enough power to the USB or some laptops
even turn the USB off in battery mode, etc. On top of all of this you would
still need a RS232 to Kenwood level converter as mentioned in the earlier post.
