[Kenwood] TS-950SDX recording and playback using DRU-2

I recall that we discussed this last year, but don't remember the
solution.  I had a need today to record off the air using the DRU-2.  I
followed the instructions on page 46 of the Instruction Manual, section
4-7-4.  When I press the REC-3 key per the instructions, there is no
indication of any kind that the recording has begun (I suspect it has
not).  When the VOICE key is pressed, I get nothing but the canned voice
reading the frequency out to me.  The DRU-2 works just fine, recording
my own voice from the mic and playing back for transmission.  Can anyone
tell me what I'm missing?
