[Kenwood] Kenwood TS-830S SSB Filters

Hi Bob,  

The stock SSB filters (2.4 kHz BW)  in the 830S are the YK-88S (8830 IF)
and a small Murata CFJ-455K8 (455 IF) actually not sure if 8 but newer
ones use the K12.  

At one time, I had a pair of 2.1 kHz F-T (now Inrad) filters installed in
place of the stock filters.  Had to use double-sided tape and coax
pigtails to mount the larger (same size as the CW 455 filter) 2.1kHz 455
kHz IF filter since I had already had a pair of 500 Hz CW filters
installed.  It worked very well but the "pinched" transmit audio bugged
me.

After looking for a long time, I was able to find an F-T mod kit allowing
selection of stock pair or 2.1 kHz pair of SSB filters using the "DH" or
dial hold pushbutton as the selector switch.  I actually use a pair of
1.8 kHz F-T filters in narrow mode at the moment.

In case your question meant using different bandwidth filters for the
8830 and 455 IF's, it can be done but the transmit audio chain, the RF
speech processor, in particular would be totally messed-up. not to
mention the VBT. Need to use matched bandwidth filters in cascade.
