[Kenwood] BS-8 & TS-950

Your positive the BS-8 unit is in your BS-8?  You should see those marker signals 
without anything connected from the outside world.  It's just that the BS-8 was an 
option and many people thought they bought SM-220 with BS-8's and found out nothing 
was installed.
