Hi Jim,

Let me ramble...  The mics on Kenwood are amplified mics.  You need a voltage
from the rig to drive them.  Here is a link to the pins on the Kenwood TS-430
mic.  Ignore all the other stuff...  Please ensure you have voltage coming from
the rig to the mic.  Make sure you have the Mic Gain up high.  If this fails,
connect a long piece of scrap wire to the the mic input on the rig and manually
engage the transmitter.  Your should transmit a hum from ambient 60Hz around the
shack.  If you get deflection with hum, then the mic itself is the problem.

Again, this is very low tech.  I don't know what test equipment you have.  If
you have an o'scope, you can take the cover off the mic and look at your audio
from the mic when it attached to the rig (powered from the rig) as you speak....
