Hey Jim,
Welcome to the club. I think if you send a full power CW carrier you
will find that the meter just hits 100W. and on ssb you will find a
much lower reading on your watt meter.
I am still not happy with my IC-746 after using my TS-520 The TS-520
hits 100+ on the watt meter on ssb and I'm lucky to see 70 watts using
my 746.
I have found that the longer it has been since I have used my KW then
the less I miss the extra punch. But every now and then I get
fustrated trying to work a DX and I start to think about going to the
garrage and getting the BIG GUNS out and doing it the easy
way.......... with my "old" Kenwood and the 104d
