[Kenwood] 850 off freq

Just wanted, for the record, to post the result to my previous problem of
my 850 being up to 150 Hz off-frequency on USB/CW but not LSB. Several
people replied, saying it was not possible because the frequency is
determined by one master oscillator, and it would have to be off on both
 sidebands.

Well, they were correct. I was able to hear the difference in the beat
note on WWV in USB mode, but not in LSB mode because it is much easier to
hear the high note than the very low note. It turns out that the worst
case for my rig is in the neighborhood of 60 Hz off the displayed
frequency. I determined this by comparing the note of the tone in AM mode
with the WWV tone in the two sideband modes. Don't compare one sideband
with the other...compare the sound of each sideband with WWV in AM mode.

It turns out that the discrepancy between actual frequency and displayed
frequency is a small one that I can live with, and I know how to adjust
it
if it ever starts bothering me. Thanks for everyone's help.

 Paul K4PDM
