The three positions in the 6 meter band are normal. I am assuming that since
6 meters is such a big band, it is done to make  moving around the band
easier...the first position for SSB/CW operations, the second position
perhaps for the Pacific DX window, and the third for simplex and repeater FM
operation. I also assume the 2 positions within the 10 meter band are there
for  similar reasons. I believe the Pacific DX window is primarily for
Pacific area ops, but I keep 52.525 on the third and use it like a memory
that I can access quickly

Regarding the power supply inquiry...I run my TS 2000 with an Astron RS35M.
It is a bit overkill, but I also run other devices off it and never have to
worry about the PS straining under  100% duty cycle modes.
