[Kenwood] Kenwood tm733E problems

Hi Marcel,

     I had one of these and I sold it (to someone who realized
what they were getting) because of problems like these.  What
I found was that the connections between the front panel (which
can be removed) and the radio would corrode over time and
become intermittent.  I had problems like you had, plus it would
consistently erase the first three memory locations (very annoying).

Their connection method is very poor.  There are spring loaded pins
on the removeable faceplate that push against gold plated pads on
the radio.  So there is no pin-to-socket capture mechanism that has
a wiping action to it.  It's just the pressure of the pins against the
pads.  What I would do, about every other month, would be to remove
the faceplate and wipe the pins and the pads with a cotton swab dipped
in alcohol.  This seemed to solve the problem for a while, until it
corroded up again.  Anyway, you might give that a try to see if your
symptoms disappear.

Sinds a long time I have trouble with my Kenwood TM 733E.
When the set is working longer than an hour, suddenlijk the audio stops
(while somebody is transmitting)
Or the display will lock-up (when you touches a button nothing will work)
Even the on/off woun't work.
the only way to get it off is to disconnect te leads.
When you switch ist on, it will hang on ' power on'..

Is this a known bug ?
more importend: What can I do about it ??

Try a universal fix. Remove the covers, tighten all the PC board
mounting screws. Replace the covers. Fixes many odd ills where circuits
depend on the board mountings for ground circuits.
