[Kenwood] Kenwood TS2000 satellite question

Recently purchased a Kenwood TS2000, and got it on the
satellite function saturday night.  My first time on
the birds, which was a blast.  Also made 3 contacts on
sunday morning, and both of these came on UO-14.  I
decided to put the frequencies in satellite memory 1,
and this is when the problems started.  Sunday night
we had two nice passes of UO-14, and I had the bird
full quieting, but could not get in it.  The transmit
meter on the TS2000 meter was showing full output-100
watts in this case, but I could not contact anyone. 
After the second pass, and much frustration, I had
another local ham listen on the up link frequency
(145.975) and he said that he could not hear me.  When
I went out of satellite mode, and just put 145.975 on
VFO A-we were full quieting.

So what is going wrong?  I had 70cm in VFO A-which is
downlink, and 2 meters in VFO B, which is uplink, just
as the manual says.  I had the main VFO dial tuned to
VFO B (the 2 meters) and the sub dial tuned to VFO A
for uplink.  THis worked OK on saturday night/sunday
AM when it was not stored in memory.  This AM I tried
again in satellite mode, but using the VFOs instead of
the memory, and was getting in the bird, but had
trouble receiving (no preamp) and it was low on the
horizon.

So what is going wrong with memory 1?  SHould I not
use that and just retune the VFOs every time I want to
use UO-14?  So far the satellites have been very fun,
and want to keep at it.  ANy help will be appreciated.
