FORGET THE FOAM BUTTON!!! Under the foam button there's a hole that
accepts a #4 self tapping screw. Find one 1/4" long (I used a flat head)
and run it in until the button just actuates the switch before the hard
plastic button bottoms on the side of the microphone. If the screw is
too long it will break the PC board or the switch. If too short it won't
trip it. I've seen the foam fail in the second hour of operation of a
new radio, I've had no more problems with my Kenwoods using that
microphone style once I went to the screw modification. Nor have many
others who have made that simple mod. It takes a tiny big of skill to
adjust the screw which the factory doesn't expect on their production
line.
