Subject: [Kenwood] R-1000 problem

Ahoy! I need your advice regarding an R-1000 receiver that performs
beautifully most of the time, but intermittently loses its mind in the
following manner. It jumps from the selected frequency to a fixed
frequency that is indicated on the digital readout, but independent of
analog dial setting. The fixed frequency is different for the four ranges
of the MHz bandswitch, viz...

Band: Readout freq:
0 to 7 MHz: ~ 10.0 MHz
8 to 15 MHz: ~ 18.0 MHz
16 to 22 MHz: ~ 25.9 MHz
23 to 29 MHz: ~ 33.0 MHz

Sometimes the dropouts are momentary, while at other times dropouts last
indefinitely. The receiver always starts normally and dropouts seem to
happen after it has been on for 10 to 15 minutes. Changing the bandswitch
or any other control has absolutely no effect. I have examined the circuit
boards and checked wiring connectors, harvesting no clues. Even so, I
suspect something really simple is causing this problem. I would be
grateful for your suggestions to troubleshoot this lovely little radio.
