[Kenwood] TS-530S

  I'am trying to help a Older Ham Friend With His TS-530  , his Audio all of
    a sudden Sounds like Back scatter Underwater , I had Him change Mic  and
    Ant Still Has the Problem, I Picked Up a Driver 12 BY7A  Still Sounds
    Distorted,  Just wondering if anyone has any Suggestions for trouble
    shooting this . I Did tell him to Get a Couple of 6146 To Try.I really hat
    to admit This But When His Audio was Working it sounded better then my
    TS-2000 With the Fancy Heil Goldline, just cannot say enough about the
    great audio from Old tube Equipment.

On this Question I was given the following Suggestions

Change 6146  Did That -And neutralized -Same Problem  And

Change 12BY7A Driver --Did that -same Problem

Clean Band Switch--Did that same Problem

Early this Morning about  0300 I was Working Security at a Large Church and
we were talking on the Radio about the Problem ,  I Had Him take the Cover
off and Just make a visual inspection . He told Me He observed a small Un
lit Light ,  That looks like a Miniature Christmas Bulb turned backwards by
the Display ( Not Illumination )  I had Him while talking Find an Insulated
tool and lightly Tap on it, He used a Small model Paint brush , and all of
a sudden his Audio Cleared up. I think it might of Been used for some type
of Bias ? but not having the Schematic I was unable to tell Him , Just
wondering if anyone is familiar with this Part? And it's Function I have
been playing around with Communications a long time and Have heard of the
Golden Screwdriver , and the Upgraded Platinum Screwdriver ,Now I will have
to make Up a name for the little Wood Paint brush.
