[Kenwood] TS-850 problem

I am not familiar with the 850 enough to know if this is an inherent problem
or a newly developed one within yours. I used to have a solid state
transceiver with the same symptom. I wound up designing a multi section
Elliptic/Cauer high pass filter to remedy the problem. Usually there is
typically one, or at worst two, offending stations that cause the majority
of the problem. The nice thin about the Elliptic design is the ability to
place the zero's of transmission directly on the offending station, reducing
it's attenuation substantially more than the filter's equal ripple design in
the stop band would allow. Additionally, the use of an Elliptic allows a
nice and steep transition band such that 160 meters is not affected. There
are several books with normalized element values for a given design, which
is typically the way I go, however, today, I am sure there is a lot of
software available as well to do the design for you. Make sure you put the
filter inside the radio, after the TR relay/switch, so it goes directly to
the front end of the receiver. Good luck & 73 - Mike
