[Kenwood] TS930 S-Meter adjustments

From what I hear, most s-meters are out of adjustment. I'd like to do the same
calibration for my '940. I don't have a signal generator, though. Is there a
way to do this without one? Can one be constructed? I'd imagine that you could
make a crystal oscillator at the frequency of interest, but adjusting the level
may be a challenge.

Thanks Clif
I do truly have a service manual.....it's just that apparently I can't read!
I have now looked closely at step 12 of the rx alignment and lo...it says
..s-meter adjustment. Duh! At least it certainly looks more like it.
However, I am still puzzled by what the instruction manual says as opposed
to the service manual. The instruction manual which came with the radio
says in Section 8. Maintenance and Adjustment, page 37 para 9..S-Meter
Adjustment (Signal Unit)......."Disconnect the antenna with the transceiver
in receive mode. Zero-point adjustment:
Adjust VR2 for meter pointer zero indication. If a standard signal
generator (SSG) is available, adjust VR3 so that the S-meter indicates
"S-9", at 14.175 MHz for a 40db (50uV) signal."
I guess the technical author must have been having a bad day!
Thanks again.
