[Kenwood] TM-G707A Programing Question

Bought a 707A yesterday based on out very happy experiences
with a pair of TH-G71A HTs (and the fact that I can largely
recycle the memory files!).  Built a control cord from this
http://home.attbi.com/~kc7zru/pg4s.html schematic.  I'm
getting a time out error from the computer.  I'm putting the
radio into clone mode...the serial port is right (and works
with several other radios).  So, I sheepishly ask, is there
something I'm missing, like some menus setting?  Any help
gratefully appreciated!
