[Kenwood] Need Help With Kenwood 180s

Do any of you guys own a Kenwood 180S with the add on memory unit.
If you have one of these rigs have you ever had to have the memory unit 
repaired because it would not store memorized freq's?
I have one of these radios.
I tried to repair the problem myself with no luck. I have had the radio at a 
repair shop now for 2 months.
The service tech who is a friend of mine, told me he has had it with the 
problem.
He can't fix it. 
If anyone out on the reflector has had a radio repaired with this problem 
please share the fix with me. 
If you have any idea of how to fix this please share.
At this point any help no matter how small could lead me in the right 
direction.
