My guess is that the 930 probably has wider filters in it, the YK88S2 at 3
KHz wide and the Murata CFJ 455K13 at a similar bandwidth. Many of the
940's came with a pair of 2.7 KHz filters, the YK88S1 and the CFJ455K12.
I believe that extra 300 Hz or so can make the SSB "sound" much deeper and
brighter to someone who can hear it. I have replaced the filters in my TS
850 with slightly wider (and deeper?) INRAD's at 2.8 to get a slightly
better sound, but I did have the 930 filters in it before, they were
noticeably "better" sounding. However, remember this is a tradeoff: you
tradeoff wider "sound" against more QRM / side chatter. With some filters
you also tradeoff other factors. The INRAD catalog gives a fair
explanation of the tradeoffs made in filters.

If you like, you can switch the filters. It should be as easy as that,
but it might involve resetting the carrier setpoints to get things just
right. Not a big deal if you are a little familiar with the radio.
