Mike and All Ya'll,
I was trying to keep clear of this.......
Raytown is a great club to lend our operating expertise and there are enough
younger hams to make it educational. I like the Raytown Club a lot.
I do plan (if I'm in town) to go to the AK9D site also and help support them
and to Raytown and support them.
I have a lot of toys and they are useful for FD.
Now, Yes I did host a number of FD's at my QTH and they were great fun. It
seems that it became more difficult to get commitments after Doc, Ace and
Tom moved away. The remainder save for a few just would commit with a "I
might stop by". That makes it VERY hard to plan any meals and refreshments
(the heart of FD), so I stopped hosting.
Smoke brought his whole family and camped out, so did Ike and others. Alex
cranked away at the surplus rig with the hand generator and we had a blast.
I guess times are just different for many.
I feel that FD should not be planned except for radios. The whole idea is
for it to simulate emergency commo and not a well orchestrated operation
(IMHO). I enjoy the planned events just as well, but 100W and a battery to a
piece of wire is real emergency commo and good enough for me.
I have taken a job that includes a lot of travel. I will have a rig with me
and I will make a few Q's from wherever I am and it will be fun.
I would support a KCDXC/W0CW FD operation if it happens, let's just commit
and stick to it.

I think Bill's idea is great! What a great way to introduce young people to
ham radio! Probably can't do it this year, but maybe the club can discuss it
and plan on 2012!!!
FYI for new guys, the KCDXC has done FD several times over the years. The
Best was at AB0I's Radio Ranch circa 1978.
I remember operating 20 M SSB and because signal was so big with John's big
antennas, I had to run callers by districts! We worked well into the night
operating this way at huge rates, until the band closed. Then we went to 40
and we worked Russians all night along with hundreds of USA FD guys. Great
fun!!
K0LW has sponsored several FD's at his QTH with varying results. Lee can
comment on this.
With the convention keeping some of us very busy, next year seems like a
good idea. But at K0RU's QTH isn't bad either. Could be a topic of
discussion at next meeting.
