Barry and Club Members,

Reading Lee's message just now got me to take another look at the mail I had sent. And after a second look, I will agree that the wording was not as good as it should have been.  We have a lot of good hearted members who's tongues (and fingers) seem to overload their brains at times - and I am right there in the middle of that.

So I want to take this opportunity to apologize to you Barry, and to the club members as a whole, for my poor choice of wording and generally (unneeded) feisty attitude.

I will have to admit that I was not for a dues increase, but it was brought up and voted on at a meeting and this type of voting has been typical of the club for some years. The club is moving forward and there are directions the club wants to pursue that may require additional funds. I guess an extra 5 bucks won't hurt. 

I do think the first response you got was a little harsh, but it may not have been meant that way. It is always hard to read emotions via e-mail. I don't think the increase was mentioned in past minutes of the meetings, probably an oversight.

I think this train has left the station, but if you really want to change club policy and direction, we welcome you at future meetings.

I believe the newsletter can be had at no charge on the website and you will not be dropped from the reflectors if you don't pay up as a member. So like many others have done and still do, you are welcome to participate in the club in whatever way suits your style.

Thanks for supporting the club.

It is my fault for making the motion that the dues should be increased.  This was raised and approved quite some number of months prior - I forget when - but last fall.  

I am the treasurer and the keeper of the few coins the club has.  The bank balance has been published in the newsletter from time to time.  I'm sure as an observant guy you have seen it.

You are right, the clubs costs - assuming it did nothing new - are about unchanged, if not slightly less.

However, the club also has many interests to expand both the club activities vs. the past - and to push our club up a step in both membership and visibility.  

These things necessarily will create some costs.  You can see the flurry of W0DXCC activity as just the first of these endeavors.

Another way to look at - $5/year comes down to something like a penny per day.  

Another way to look at it - dues have been unchanged for 30 years yet the devaluation of the dollar in inflation adjusted terms has taken a toll - so I am pretty sure that $20 we are paying now probably has less actual buying power than $15 did 30 years ago. 

Another way to look at it - in the event the $5 is proving a hardship for a member, we have several individual who have already volunteered to step in and provide assistance should that be needed.

Lastly, if you would like to get more involved on the expense and funding side, I would very much welcome a volunteer such as yourself.  A guy with the public service portfolio you have may be interested in just such an added adventure?  If so, let me know!!!

Well Judy WON'T be bringing it up at the next meeting. I think EVERYBODY had there chance to voice there concerns and vote. Not my fault if people don't attend the meetings or keep up with what is going on, information was provided to everybody.

Hi Bob:

I have some Issues with the Increase in the Membership 
Dues !

It had been $ 15.00 for 30 plus years and this 
Included the Newsletter being Mailed to all current 
members.

I personally feel the Dues should be kept the same as 
it had been.

There is Zero expense for Postage since there are no 
more mailings of the Newsletter.

Perhaps the club should have a ( Associate Membership 
) no voting privileges but still listed on the roaster and access to the 
Internet newsletter.

There should also be a treasures report put on line so 
the members can see how much is in the Club account and what 
expenses.

You and Judy should bring this Issue up at the next 
meeting.
