Don,
I have an SWR analyzer as well, you could borrow if you can't make
connections with Lee.
I had similar experiences with a Butternut vertical several years ago. I
found the antenna would change resonant points in the band every time it
rained. I first thought it was bad coax, but later discovered it was the
antenna. They are very touchy and moisture levels in the soil have a larger
effect on resonant frequency than they are supposed to according to
Butternut and most antenna theory books.
I ended up taking all the coils off it and made it into a full size 40 M
vertical.(85 full size radials under it) Actually, did that with 2 of them
and made a phased array. I tune single one it for 30 & 17M bands. Works
well.
Good luck.
73, Mike

Don,
I visited Johnny yesterday along with KA5PAO and AB0X and he was somewhat
alert, but weak. He looks like he got beat up really bad, but his spirits
are good and they got him up in a chair to eat.
I'm going to go see him again today.
I have an MFJ analyzer but you can't borrow it. I will be happy to loan it
to Jan and maybe she can show you how to use it.
Lee, K0LW

First, what is the latest on Johnny W0JM that can be known???
Second, does anyone have an antenna anylizer in the Overland Park area that
they rent out??? I have a Butternut HF6V-X I'm having trouble getting
resonant where I want it. Everytime I think I have the low bands good,
adjust something for the higher bands, then the low bands are messed up
again. Instructions say that shouldn't happen so I must not have the low
bands right to start out.
Thanks,

No trees were knowingly harmed in any way during the production and

somewhat inconvenienced however.
