[KCDXC] Article VIII: Amendments

Ladies & Gentlemen:
Bob is correct that he brought this SNAFU to our attention. A fact that I have mentioned privately has save us untold amounts of grief and for which I was extremely grateful. However the current snippet that Bob refers to IS NOT what is currently being considered on the KCDXC website. That provision is:

VIII.I This constitution may be amended by a three-quarters vote of the votes received. Proposals for amendments to the constitution shall be submitted in writing at a regular meeting and will be published in the newsletter and electronically via e-mail and the club website as amendments/changes to the constitution. Voting for those changes will be accepted until seven (7) days prior to the next monthly meeting at which time all voting will be closed. A three quarter (3/4) majority vote of the voting members shall be considered acceptance of the amendment/amendments. Results will be tabulated by the election committee and announced at the next regular meeting. Results will be published in the newsletter as well as electronically via e-mail.

It specifically states that all voting will be closed seven (7) days prior to the next monthly meeting.

Section 7 of the by-laws states: Voting to change the Constitution, remove officers or members shall be conducted by electronic voting consisting of e-mail or via the members portal on the KCDXC website.

What we (the constitutional committee) were attempting to do in this proposal was to make it difficult to change the constitution or throw somebody out of the club. Conversely we wanted it to be relatively easy to make changes to the by-laws, in which the club conducts its day to day business. We also wanted to make it short and simple.

I thanked Bob privately in an e-mail when he brought it to our attention and I would like to do that publicly now, but I believe we fixed the problem.
