This IS the last year, so why change?

I tend to agree with Mike.
Back when the Grand Prize was a Bencher paddle, changing the format would
have been no big deal.
But to start altering the format after all these years, especially due to
the magnitude of the prizes these days, would not be in the club's best
interest.
Folks know what to expect; a set of headphones, a pencil and a piece of
paper. Start adding things like a PC and next thing you know someone wants
to bring their DSP audio filter to plug in because that's what they use when
contesting. The next guy wants to verbal the call to someone else who
writes the calls down.... You allow changes, the next thing you know,
everyone wants to modify the format for their own needs/requirements.
Some things are best left alone.
Just my $0.02 worth.

I have given the exam for the last several years. We have built our
reputation on consistency. I do not favor changing to allow notebook
computers to be used. I know many ops use them totally for contests now, but
changing the format after all these years is a big step.
If the club wants to change the rules and allow computers to be used, that
is fine with me. I don't oppose it if the majority of the group wants to do
it this way. However, if this is done I will have to bow out and let
someone else be in charge of the testing.
