You will not see it printed anywhere in the ARRL SS CW Web Report, but we
placed 5th nationally in the 2004 SS CW Multi-Op Category using the callsign
KB0VVT. This is the first time that we have ever placed in the Top Ten at
my house so we are pretty happy. I know, Multi-Op is not as intense as
Single Op High Power. We like to participate in Multi-Op because we appear
to be competitive with our small station, and more importantly we get to
operate amateur radio together as a family.

Barbara has not done much CW since passing her 20 wpm, so Rebecca and I
usually operate this contest alone. This year was a little different
because Steve K0OU agreed to come play radio with us. Rebecca did most of
the operating during this contest. Except for a couple short bathroom
breaks, Rebecca ran various frequencies on different bands, from 3 PM until
11:30 PM. She wanted to go longer but I suggested she go to bed. You see,
she was scheduled to perform a violin solo during early church service the
next morning. Once Rebecca went to bed, I operated until around 3 AM or so
in the morning. I went to bed around 4 AM. This is the part of the contest
where Steve really made a big difference. When I go to bed at 4 AM, I
generally have a tough time getting back up early enough on Sunday morning.
Steve showed up to start running the station at around 6:30 AM. I took over
running the frequency around 10:00 AM. Rebecca took over for me once she
returned from church, and operated pretty much full time the remainder of
the contest.

As you may know, the SS exchange can be rather challenging especially at 30
wpm. I know that there are quite a few young contesters out there that
operate phone, but I do not know many young teenagers that are ready to be
competitive during SS CW at 30 wpm. Good Job Rebecca!

73,

Dave KG0US
