I telephoned Dan at Associated Radio yesterday to ask him about the postcard
he sent me about ICOM DAY at his store on Saturday February 21, 2004. He
then went on to tell me about how he attended the last KCDX club meeting and
that the KCDX club was planning on working with ICOM to do another
presentation like they did some years back.
I remember the last time ICOM was here to do a presentation. My wife
Barbara was out of town on a business trip so Rebecca and I attended the
presentation on our own. We had heard that there was going to be some food
provided. Not knowing what kind of food, Rebecca and I decided to eat dinner
at one of our favorite Chinese restaurants which is Bo Lings on the Plaza.
Once we arrived at the presentation, we quickly realized that there was
plenty of food there and we did not need to go out to eat after all.
I think that the ICOM presentation was where I first met Tom AE9B in person.
Tom, not being shy to criticize, was very disappointed that the KCDX club
did not do more to promote the club to the audience.
Well now, Tom and the rest of us have a wonderful opportunity to promote the
club if we are indeed going to do another big time ICOM presentation. There
are several things that we could do to promote the KCDX club. We could
schedule the meeting about 30 minutes or so before the actual ICOM
presentation. At that time, we could promote the club to the audience. We
could present information about chasing DX and contesting. We may even be
able to recruit new members or some potential new contesters. We could have
a special newsletter that highlights what we like to do. Of course, the
newsletter would have a membership application attached to it. We could
talk about the incoming Zero land QSL service. Perhaps we could pass out
Zero land cards and solicit stamp and envelope money. We could talk about
what goes on in the KCDX hospitality suite at Dayton. If we really wanted
to go crazy, we could have a pile-up contest just like the one we have at
Dayton.
There are many things that we can do and I am not saying that my ideas are
the best, but we should do something given the opportunity. Unless it is
going to be a private party, we should decide what we are going to do
quickly and spread the word around because it is only 3 or so weeks away.
Special Meeting?
Thank You,
