Ah, yes.....old memories of past Field Days.
The vision of a truck with a monster beam duct taped to its top, engine
running, windows down, 807 equipped driver awaiting the "rotate"
command....
I remember the year we had the trained chicken......oops, guess I can't
really go into that here...but suspenders were involved.
Or the year we borrowed a ham's two element quad. Funny lookin' thing
when
we got it up in the air. Come to find out, we had put the 10 meter
wires
out on the very end of spreaders. Funny what several 807s will do to a
person out in the heat.
Or the year we were donated the use of a utility bucket boom truck.
Problem
was getting the antenna to rotate. So a fellow ham volunteered to
actually
go up with the antenna, sit in the bucket and await commands to rotate.
Problem was, once the boom truck was delivered and raised, along with
the
human rotator, the owner/operator went home. Things were in such
turmoil
while getting setup, no one noticed he was gone....and he took the keys
with
him. Noon the next day, we were finally able to get in contact with the
owner who returned to lower the human rotator back down.
Or the year K0RWL and I went out to the field day site to operate some.
Never saw a person who could operate a radio, an iambic key, a
memory-keyer
(one of K0CS's specials), hold and smoke a pipe, while holding a steady
rate
of 100 per hour. And this was all with one hand...as we all know he was
holding a beer with the other. As logger, I was responsible not only
for
logging contacts but keeping the beer hand occupied with 807s.
I could go on. But I won't
