Mayo J McAllister of Leawood, Kansas, 82, passed away on Monday, May 26
at
St Joseph's Hospital. Memorial services to be announced.

He was born in 1921 to Z.D. and Bula McAllister in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He
moved to the Kansas City area in 1931 and graduated from Shawnee Mission
North High School in 1937. While attending Kansas City Junior College,
he
worked at Burstein-Applebee and Wilcox Electric Co. After the beginning
of
World War II, he worked at Wright Field with the Civil Service doing
research in the Special Weapons Branch of the U.S. Army Air Corps and
later
was assigned to the Office of Strategic Services. In 1945 he transferred
to
Pennsylvania State University where he worked in the engineering
department. At Penn State, he met and married Jean Walters, his wife of
57
years. In 1947, they returned to the Kansas City area where he worked as
a
Sales Engineer for the W.E. Fry Co until 1961 when he started his own
manufacturers' representative and importing company, McAllister
Associates,
Inc. He retired in 2000 at which time his son, Jim, took over the
operation
of the company.

He has been an active Amateur Radio Operator since he was 12 years old
being especially fond of and proficient in the use of International Code
and enjoyed talking to operators in as many foreign countries as
possible
and traveling to many unusual places to operate as a "dx" station with
call
letters issued to him by those countries. As W0CW he was a member of
QCWA,
ARRL and KC DX Club. He was also a member of Old Mission Masonic Lodge
and
Blue Hills Country Club .

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Sandra
McAllister
Engstrom. He was a devoted husband and father and with his very outgoing
personality, great sense of humor and love of travel made many friends
all
over the world. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne , son and daughter in
law, Jim and Patricia McAllister, three grandsons, a granddaughter and
three great grandsons as well as three nieces and three nephews.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Powell Gardens, American
Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
