You would get *some* contacts, but it wouldn't perform well.
A vertical is the way to go...just put up say, 40 feet of mast,
insulate from ground with a coke bottle, then use a loading coil
to get *resonance*, then a tap on the coil to get a good 50 ohm
match. Don't forget to lay down at least 30 temporary radials,
even if they have to be short radials!
If you had your RBX tower up, then you could gamma match
it, and top-load the mast for resonance.
