The forum was moderated by Cliff Ahrers K0CQ. Other members
included Wayne Mills N7NG, from the ARRL Member Services and
the DXCC Desk, Wade Walstrom W0EJ, the Midwest Division Director,
Ken 'Scotty' Scott, I don't remember Scotty's call, from the Mississippi
Valley DX / Contest Club in St. Louis and I represented the KC DX Club.
Wayne covered 'Logbook of the World'. It's a system the league
is working on to help cut the cost of qsling and should be online by the
end of the year.
The high points of this system are:
As each log is submitted electronically it is checked against every
log received to date and matching qsos are placed in a confirmed
database(db) with a digital signature on each. There will be no charge
for sending in your logs. If a mistake is made only the QSOs in
question need to be resubmitted.
When an award is applied for, this confirmed qso db will be checked
for qsos and some type of charge applied then.
Wayne doesn't believe QSL cards will ever disappear, there are
still hams using paper logs.
After Wayne's presentation Scotty and I had a chance to talk
about our clubs.
I had a short write up, mostly copied from the web site (tnx Bill)
that included out meeting date, time and place, the suite at Dayton,
some of the recent DXpeditions club members have been on, a
short blurb about the Zero bureau, our e-mail reflector and the web site.
WB9M (Lebanon), ask for an application so I made one up and
e-mailed it about an hour ago, When K0CA(Hannibal) ask, I told
him to give me $15. I took it and his info and passed them to Rick
in a snail mail this morning. A ham from Lenexa also ask when we meet.
A comment from a ham in the DX Forum at the
MO State ARRL Convention in Lebanon on Saturday.
"To everyone at KCDX Club who works in the Incoming Bureau
Thanks Very Much, We really appreciate you effort"'
Followed be a round of applause.
I accepted their gratitude with all the sincerity I could muster.
No comments please!
It was a pleasure representing the KC DX Club.
