Subject: W0DXCC Convention

===8<==============Original message text===============
Greetings fellow DXers. It's time we here in zero land get together.

Why don't we hold a W0DXCC convention patterned after the W9DXCC
convention held annually in September in Chicago.

The venue would be Omaha, NE which would be mutually inconvenient to
everyone.....even to those Dxers in the Omaha area due to the constant
construction on I-80. <G> :)

The tentative dates would be Friday September 13 for a dinner banquet,
hospitality room etc. and Saturday September 14 st for the DX forums. Or
if travel would be better we could do a Saturday 14th -Sunday 15th
meeting. Whatever you prefer.

I'll do all the work of putting it together, making hotel and banquet
reservations, getting out the mailings, trying to arrange the forums,
emceeing the event, etc.

What you will need to do is get people from your club to attend. Our
critical number is 100. Below that number it is not worth the effort.

The W9DXCC charges $55 for the full convention and banquet or $30
for just the convention. Based upon my prior experience in holding
seminars for the bar association (no....not that kind of "bar" :) ) I
would anticipate that the costs would run approximately the same.

Are you guys interested? If so, give me your thoughts and the approximate
number of members you can plead, beg and threaten into attending.

Also....would the KCDXC be interested in hosting a hospitality suite? I
attended their suite at the Dayton Hamvention and they really do know how
to host a suite (or is it hoist a beer??)

At the Midwest Convention I discussed this concept with our Vice Director,
Bruce K0BJ and he seemed excited about the idea and promised to get all 3
of the Dxers in Kansas to attend (2 of whom have proudly achieved
DXCC.) Did I get that right Bruce?

Wade, W0EJ, our honorable ARRL Director, promised to get the Eastern Iowa
DX Association to attend. This would normally be a plus.....but you don't
know the EIDXA. They have been known to use the Collins antenna farm to
work the P5 and seeing them en masse could be a frightening sight.

Of course our club in Des Moines (the MMM) * will be there in full force
and will freely share our tips on how to work Scarborough IS, get a QSL
from AbuBaker and Monk Apolo , and make Ed P5 call YOU in the pileup.

Let me know ASAP so that I have as much lead time as possible.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

* OK....... the MMM stands for Megahertz Manor Maniacs. It really did
seem like a good name at the time. And the contest call, K0MMM is great.
