Not to mention that Kantronics didn't mind hanging out to dry anyone who
purchased (multiple) KAM's and then wouldn't/couldn't support them when
certain chips died! As far as I'm concerned, Kantronics is a dead issue.

I would consider it self supportive, and only piracy if you sell it for
profit. If a chip craps out and you can fix it with a backup copy and a new
chip for yourself I am all for it. Kind of like refering to the photocopy
of a manual you made just before everything flooded, dried out then caught
fire. You're not pirating, you are permiting yourself to function.

I would think that making a PROM on one's own might be considered
piracy. Of course if they don't support it any longer one hasn't much
choice.
