My wife and I are planning a couple of days trip to the San Francisco-Oakland area in late December (29-31). Since my wife hasn't ever been there and I haven't been there for some years, I wonder if any of the group can give us some ideas of how to get around, places to see, etc. besides the obvious. (I do want to visit TI if possible) Any advice will be great ly appreciated; if any of you will be there I'd like to see some of the old gang! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Lots of the buildings are gone now. but I can point our where most of them were. Also happy to give you tips for the city. I discovered the original shack back in July 1964 when I was on TI for the weekend just passing through, but it became my Navy home, so to speak, and some of my best Navy buddies are fellow hams I met there. Anyway, we plan to come to the Bay area Dec. 29 and stay just a couple of days - I am familiar with San Francisco but my wife has never been there and it's been some years since I visited there. My wife made reservations on Southwest Airlines to fly into Oakland, since it costs a little less than going into San Francisco, and we have reservations at a hotel not far from Oakland airport, which is where I had my private pilot check ride back in May of 1966 - wow was it that long ago? I definitely want to show her around TI and compare it now with how I remember it half a century ago! Of course we want to see San Fran and make like tourists, see the sights, eat at Fisherman's Wharf, etc. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me - I hope to receive word from Pete also! Thanks again! Even better if you send me a text. Quite a bit more has changed in the last year. The Acey-Ducey is gone. The Nimitz center is behind a fence. Casa De La Vista is gone. The Eagle's Nest and pretty much everything on the North and West side of Yerba Buena is gone, including most of the trees. The Chapel is still here. There was a push to save it which was successful. Buildings 1, 2, and 3 are still here. The Yacht Club is in a corner of Building 2. Depending on the schedule, I might be able to get us into Building 1 and the Cupola if there are any city staffers on duty when you're here. Perhaps one day we will make the trip (Uber a lot). Desmond thanks for keeping K6NCG alive and your offer.
