Any interest in getting a Sked to work Treasure Island?  I can set up here and use the club call if anyone wants to work it.

Many changes on the Island. Almost all of the housing on YBI has been gone for a while. 
The BOQ/BEQ ?Star Barracks? have been reduced to gravel piles.  
They just demolished building 180 last week. 
They saved the Chapel, but everything around it is gone.

Both of the old yacht club buildings are gone, but the TIYC moved into an old paint shop in Bldg 2.  It?s VERY nice now.

There?s a massive dirt mountain on top of the Quonset hut that housed the last ham shack.  They?re going to use that dirt to raise the ground level of the whole island by 3 feet.

Is there a roster of the members of this group. I'd be interested to know if there is anyone on your mailing that was stationed at Treasure Island from 1972-1974. I attended ET-A school during that time period.

I would be interested in working K6NCG.  Thanks for the update on TI.  I was stationed there for 9 months, 1968-1969.  I have great memories of ETA school and spending time at the ham shack.  I have lost contact with any friends I knew at ETA school except for one person and he lost interest in ham radio.  The ?Star Barracks? were new at the time I was stationed there.  It is hard to believe they are reduced to gravel piles.  Any new pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Keep us informed if you do get on.  I would like a shot at working K6NCG.  That has a lot of memories for me.  I am in KY and the only antenna I have up at the moment is a full quarter wave elevated ground plane for 160 meters ? a 150 foot Rohn 45 tower with an insulator section 27 feet above ground with 7 full radials suspended above ground.  It works! I can load it on all bands.

BTW? my wife just asked a very good question.  Why are they raising the level of the island?  Sounds like a government boondoggle to me :-)

Hello to Paul, W4ARK.  I went through ET?A? school from July, 1962 until May 1963. I went to CTM2 and got out after my four year enlistment was up.  When I was there, the shack was over on the edge of the bay, looking at Alcatraz.  I helped put up the 105 foot tower and tribander.

I think there is a website with K6NCG info on it.  I haven?t looked at it in a while.

I moved here in 1999, right after the Navy left in 1997. I?ve had to move out of my original place so they could demolish it and look in the ground underneath.  There?s been a few like this.

I check into the 40 meter noontime net just about every day from my house.  There?s a lot of noise here in the housing area, but I can take a portable rig out to an open space and do better.

40, 20, and 7 are pretty good for me.  I use a vertical and a Motorola Micom 2.  I can also do ALE.

I remember hearing that K6NCG used to do most of their phone patches on 14.292, so I often reach for that frequency first when I need one.

I think everything is straightened out with my membership now? Thanks to W6RW and all.  Yes, K6NCG membership is one of the highlights of my ham career. I celebrate the 60th anniversary of receiving my first ticket on June 22, 1957, this year.

The K6NCG hamshack was home for me when I went through ET ?A? school.  I still have contact with a couple of the guys who were in the shack at the same time I was.  

I made the first QSO in my father?s logbook from K6NCG on 40M.  He was WN9GRF, now SK.  The K6NCG QSL I sent him hung on his wall until he passed away in 1999, even though his novice ticket expired and he never upgraded.  

I phone patched every weekend to my fianc?, planning our wedding.  I left TI on May 4, 1963 and was married to her on May 11.  This May we celebrate 54 years of marriage.

You can see why K6NCG remains close to may heart.

Let me know when a sked is set up. Im game. I was last there and in 1974
the second to that last class to graduate. Bill from Buffalo(on to NUC
school) and I (On to SPS-29E School in SD)we were the last to close down
the Ham Club. Many good weekends when we lived in the shack. Took a large
Beekman nixie tube Frequency Counter with me to my ship but got so much
crap from the EMO I finally dumped it overboard in the Med. Hated that.
